Why does my heel feel unstable on descents?
What this may really mean
Your heel may be lifting inside the shoe, or your rearfoot is not centered in the heel cup under load.
What not to assume
Do not assume outsole grip is the only issue. Upper hold and downhill posture both change stability.
What to check first
- Heel-lock lacing effectiveness during downhill walking
- Whether your foot slides forward and jams the toes
- Collar padding contact around Achilles
What now
Start with heel-lock lacing and downhill retest. If instability continues, try a different heel-cup shape.
Boundary note
If you feel repeated giving-way or ankle pain, pause use and seek in-person assessment.
